The city of Bologna has always been considered the capital of gelato especially from the moment when two famous Gelatieri changed the way of considering gelato.
The ideas of Giacomo and Marina from La Sorbetteria Castiglione (www.lasorbetteria.it) redesigned the concept of gelato as “the sweet and fresh delight”. Matteo & Matteo have been profoundly inspired by this new philosophy, and they had the privilege of learning and understanding the art of making gelato by working and observing Giacomo, one of the top Mastro Gelatiere. Matteo & Matteo also studied at GelAteneo, a very important training school inspired by the CATTABRIGA traditional values of excellence, and where Maestro Giacomo was the Master. |
Practice and hard work forged the combative characters of Matteo & Matteo, who soon after their training decided to open “La Macelleria”. The literary translation of “La Macelleria” is "Butcher Shop" and was named this because the original shop held a historical butcher shop. Matteo & Matteo did not want to destroy gastronomical traditions, heritage and story of the shop, therefore, Matteo & Matteo maintained the name and the main characteristics, such as the marble walls and the iconic neon sign.
