Australian Made Commercial Glass & Dishwashing Machines
Norris has been manufacturing high performance commercial washing machines for almost half a century. We're justifiably proud of the awards we've won and the many thousands of happy users all around this country.
The Norris range can satisfy the most demanding requirements in commercial glass & dishwashing.
Choosing a Norris for your business
Compare Features & Benefits
Norris manufactures a range of commercial dishwashers to suit all types of catering, bars, hotels, restaurant & clubs.
What do I need to consider?
What is the ultimate aim in utilizing a commercial glass or dishwasher?
To deliver sparkling clean glass and table ware, every time.
This need to be :
* achieved quickly
* without damage
* at a reasonable cost
* within the guidelines of the current health laws.
Why?
So your customers keep coming back!
How do I get information about the various types of glass & dishwashers that are available?
Read the manufacturer’s
Talk to us we know your area and your requirements (e.g. water quality, water pressure, power supply size of your establishment)
the manufacturer to discuss your requirements
Do not base the decision on price alone as other factors may effect the desired end results
Choosing the right machine?
What type/s of machine are required in your establishment?
Glass washer glass/dishwasher non - recirculating
Dishwasher underbench or passthrough recirculating
What machine will I require to accomplish the desired end results?
For busy bars serving beer, wine & soft drinks an E17 Elite Series II will give the desired results.
In larger bar more than one unit may be necessary to handle the volume of items to be washed.
For those bars located in areas where water usage is of concern or simply for those interested in savings on both their water & power consumption the Eco-mate glass washer would be suitable.
For bars serving a lot of cream or milk based cocktails or juice based drinks & coffees the BT160GD would be the better option.
For coffee bars & small cafes where coffee & tea cups, saucers, finger food & cake plates are the only items to be washed a BT160GD would be suitable.
Non- recirculating or flow through
In this type of glasswasher wash & rinse water is sprayed over the load either through spinners or fixed spray nozzles, and all the water runs to waste. These units are effective at what they do & usually they are cheaper to buy, but they may prove more expensive to operate over the long haul due to the amount of water & energy they use. Some of these models have a built in pump & motor to boost the pressure of the wash water being sprayed onto the load, this feature is essential where mains pressure is low. For your convenience this model is fitted with an adjustable detergent valve, all the operator has to do is fill the detergent bottle, which is accessible from the front of the machine and the machine automatically doses each load, saving money, time & waste.
Recirculating
Recirculating glasswashers are fitted with a wash tank that heats the water. These units are fitted with a pump which draws water from the wash tank & pumps it though jets over the glasses where it flows back to the washtank. During the rinse cycle the clean rinse water flows back into the wash tank & displaces a similar value of wash water down the drain. So an amount of clean water is added to the wash water after every rinse.
Recirculating glasswashers operate similarly to the commercial dishwashers, & it may be necessary during busy periods of trade to drain & refill the machine if the wash water becomes dirty.
Dishwashers
For larger cafes & for restaurants with limited kitchen space, child care centres, church halls & even domestic homes, which are serving full meals with heavily soiled plates dinner plates the BT500 or BT500DP would be suitable. These units take the industry standard 500 x 500mm rack. Generally these units have reasonably powerful wash pumps and high capacity elements to ensure efficient washing of tableware and for quick recovery between loads. If you don’t want to be mixing chemicals and manually dosing the machine then the BT500DP would be the model you require as it comes standard with both detergent & rinse aid pumps.
Pass through, or upright, units are generally for use in 75-200 seat restaurants.
The BT600 is suitable for restaurants with up to 150 seats & where there is sufficient incoming mains water pressure of 275kPa & only single phase power is available.
The BT700 is ideal for restaurants with up to 150 seats and is available as either a single phase unit or three phase unit, depending on the power supply available. If three phase power is available it is recommended that you install a three phase unit. This model comes standard with its own rinse pump to ensure consistent results on every load.
The BT2000 is best for larger establishments seating from 75-200 people. This unit also has the largest wash chamber of the passthrough machines 450mm which allows it to wash gastronorm trays and stock pots. This unit again comes standard with its own rinse pump. Larger pumps , higher capacity elements & the size of the rinse tank in this unit ensure quicker recovery between loads, allowing for a faster turnaround of washed items.
All the passthrough or upright units take the industry standard 500 x 500mm racks.
Other Considerations
Power Supply
Power supply requirements vary according to the specifications of the machine being purchased and can range from a 240 volt, single phase, 15 amp Outlet (standard 3 pin plug). For machine specific power supply please refer to our power supply table
through to a 415 volt, 3 phase + Neutral, 20 amp supply.
It is important, when making the decision to purchase, that you consider your existing electrical power your supply and what is required to run the unit you have selected. It is also necessary to have your power outlet located within one metre of your machine. In certain cases an electrician will be required to install the unit.
Hot Water
Another consideration is that existing hot water service must be of adequate capacity and temperature to supply the unit with 55-60C water. Remember if your hot water service is poor, then you may have to settle for a unit with a larger built-in heater which will increase the electrical power you require, or you may have to wait
between cycles while the unit heats its water to the temperatures required by the Health Regulations.
Hot Water Temperature Incoming
Incoming hot water should be at around 55-600C to ensure rapid recovery of the unit between loads. Norris recommends mains pressure hot water systems, located in the vicinity of the machine.
Water Pressure
If the mains water pressure is low or inconsistent then the only choice is to purchase a unit that has a built in wash pump and rinse pump. Many of our units come standard with rinse pump so that they are suitable for installation in low water pressure areas.
Plumbing Connections
Some machines are provided with flexible connection hoses and, in this case, it is simply a matter of ensuring that the hot and cold supply lines are correctly connected to the machine and the incoming water supply. Other units are hard plumbed and will require a plumber.
Waste water should enter the drains through a P or S bend or via a tundish. Underbench units fitted with a drain pump can be plumbed into the sink trap. Other models must drain through the floor.
Physical size
Will the machine fit into the available space?
If bench space is limited an underbench model should be considered. If you are washing 30cm or 12” plates or tall cocktail glasses make sure the model you are considering will take them, check the manufacturer’s brochure or take either your largest plate or tallest glass to the closest showroom to try in the machine.
Detergent & Rinse Aid
If a detergent applicator is fitted to the machine as supplied you should use a low foaming detergent. Preferably you should use a specially formulated glass or dish washing detergent available from your detergent supplier. Most chemical suppliers will fit automatic dispensers if there is sufficient volume.
Most of the passthrough units do not come standard with detergent or rinse aid
Provided the restaurant or establishment is of sufficient size to justify the initial expense most of the bigger supply companies will fit a detergent dispenser, free of charge, to upright dishwashers in return for a cleaning compound supply contract. If a detergent dispenser is not fitted to the machine then a good quality, low foaming, detergent should be used. Care should be taken to follow the detergent manufacturer’s directions.
If adding detergent manually then after the recommended amount has been added to the wash tank when the machines is filled in the morning it will be necessary to add top up amounts during the day as the initial charge will be diluted by the rinse water coming in during each cycle. Norris recommends to use a commercial grade, non-foaming liquid detergent.
Compliance with Regulations
Care should be taken to ensure that the machine complies with the requirements of the Local Water board, State Health Regulations and the Local Council. All Norris machines comply with all appropriate regulations (New South Wales Food Regulation Act 1997 as required by the Australian New Zealand Food Authority FNZFA) and have been tested for plumbing and electrical safety. Some imported and most second hand units do not comply.
Maintenance of machine
What regular maintenance will be required to keep the machine operating correctly.
Glass washers.
Spray nozzles should be regularly checked for blockages and cleaned if necessary. Check detergent dispenser, and top up if necessary.
Recirculating Units
A good quality recirculating dish washer will be fitted with removable scrap trays to filter out large scraps, such as fruit peel, cigarette butts etc which may have been in the glasses when placed in the machine. Scrap trays should be regularly cleaned to ensure the best results and should be kept in place. For recirculating models the wash tank does not need to be drained at the end of each cycle. It should however, be drained and refilled when the water is dirty after busy periods and each evening, at the close of business. Before closing for the night the machine should be switched off to minimize energy use.
It should then be switched back on again in the morning about approximatley 30 minutes before it is required as to allow time for the water in the rinse tank to heat to the required temperature before the machine can automatically fill.
If service is required Norris equipment is backed by a nation-wide network of dealers and service technicians. Norris units are controlled by simple electromechanical controls which are cost effective to repair and replace. Unlike some competitors units they do not have failure prone electronic touch pads.
Dishwashers
Maintenance of the dishwasher is similar to that discussed above for glass washers. Care should be taken to keep scrap trays and pump screens free from debris and to remove any blockages from spray nozzles.
Descaler
It is recommended that a chemical descaler is used on a regular basis to clean the machine, & to assist with reducing calcification & other gunk in the tank & arms. Calcium & scale build up appears as a white powdery coat on the inside of the wash tank & on the wash & rinse arms - this should be removed.
Warranty, Spare Parts & Service
The length of time the machine is covered by warranty is a very good indicator of quality. All Norris machines are covered by an exclusive 5 year warranty on the cabinet, 1* year on spare parts and 1 year for the labour. (Parts warranty will be extended to *2 years if the warranty card is returned to Norris within 14 days of purchase) Norris machines are proudly Australian Made & owned.
Spares parts are readily available and stay available for 8 years. (this is not always the case with other imported models).

High Performance: The BT160GD Elite Series glass/dishwasher is the first compact under bench machine capable of performing in the busiest hotel, while being just as at home in a small coffee shop. The high wash chamber will accept beer jugs and wine carafes up to 240mm high. Versatile: Three cycle options allow the machine to wash a range of items from beer glasses and coffee cups to small plates. A one minute cycle, with a cold cooling down rinse, can be used for the busy bar where fast turnaround is required, and a one or two minute cycle with no cold rinse, for washing items ranging from coffee cups to small plates. An efficient 112 watt wash pump with built-in rinse aid and detergent dispensers give consistent results each load. Top and Bottom Rinse: Hot water raised to 82 degrees Celsius via built in booster tank is sprayed over the load via top and bottom rotating rinse arms ensuring thorough sanitising of the articles. Conformance to Health Regulations: An internal interlock will prevent the machine from operating unless the temperature required by regulation has been reached. Clearly legible wash & rinse temperature gauges allow the operator to confirm that the machine is operating within the prescribed range. Simple to Install: The BT160GD comes standard with a pump-out drain and includes hot and cold water connection hoses. Simply connect the drain too the dishwasher connection on the “S” trap and connect the hoses to the respective hot and cold water taps. Plug the power cord into a 15 Amp outlet and the machine is ready to operate. Economical: Designed to be used in areas where low water consumption is a priority, the BT160GD has a recirculating wash system, which reduces hot water usage to 2.5L per cycle. When compared to the more resource hungry models on the market, the slightly higher initial cost is quickly recovered with savings in power and water consumption, along with reduced installation costs from having a pump-out drain. Durable: All stainless steel welded construction and copper boiler tank enable the Norris BT160GD to withstand the corrosive effects of Australia’s water supply. Fully sealed insulated door with clean inner skin for added strength and ease of cleaning keep heat loss and noise down to a minimum. A 5 year warranty on the cabinet is a testament to the confidence that Norris has in the longevity of their machines. Easy to Maintain: Norris has deliberately refrained from using electronics in their machines. All controls are electromechanical and are readily available, this ensures that should your machine ever need servicing a local tradesperson will be able to get you up and running with minimum disruption and cost. Winner of two Australian Design Awards:
With the BT600 Elite Series Dishwasher, Norris offers an economy model machine with all ease of operation only found in a pass through design. In developing this machine, Norris has applied its extensive experience gained from over 50 years of manufacturing dishwashers specifically designed to suit Australia’s unique and varied conditions. It continues in the tradition that has won Norris two Australian Design Awards.
Versatile:
The machine has a fixed ninety second cycle which is sufficient for washing most items as well as a manual wash cycle which subjects the load to extended wash periods for the removal of more heavily baked on substances. This allows the BT600 Elite dishwasher to process a wider variety of items.
Economical:
The BT600 offers savings for the buyer who wants a medium capacity pass through dishwasher and who has a good hot water supply with water pressure above 275kPa*. The machine has a recirculating wash system, which reduces hot water usage to 3.5 litres per cycle.
High Performance:
A powerful 560W wash pump sprays water above and below the load via rotating stainless steel wash arms. Top and bottom rinse arms then provide efficient rinsing and sanitising from the mains pressure copper booster tank.
Conformance to Regulations:
An internal interlock will prevent the machine from operating unless the temperature required by Regulation has been reached. Clearly legible wash & rinse water temperature gauges, allows the operator to confirm that the machine is operating within the prescribed range. The hood has a safety cut-out which halts the cycle if it is raised during operation.
Ergonomically Friendly:
The convenient bench height passthrough operation, eliminates the need for operators to bend over during loading & unloading. By simply raising and lowering the handle all cycles are initiated automatically.
Installation:
The BT600 is designed to be installed for either a straight through, corner, or front only operation.
Durable:
All stainless steel cabinet construction, including wash arms & scrap trays offers better protection against harsh detergents and hot water.
The scrap trays and pump filter protect the washpump and prevent blockages in the washarms. At Norris we are so confident in the strength of the machines that we offer a five year warranty on the cabinet.
Easy to Maintain:
Norris has deliberately refrained from using electronics in their machines. All controls are electromechanical and are readily available. This ensures that should your machine ever need servicing a local tradesperson will be able to get you up and running with minimum disruption and cost.

Winner of two Australian Design Awards:
The Elite Series BT700 and BT2000 continue in the tradition that has won Norris two Australian Design Awards. The new Elite Series dishwashers are the result of extensive market research and experience gained from over 40 years of manufacturing commercial dishwashers. Norris machines are specifically designed to suit Australia’s unique and varied conditions.
Versatile:
Four wash cycle options give the machines the flexibility to handle any job. They have a sixty second cycle for washing glasses and lightly soiled plates, a ninety second cycle for a normal wash and a two minute cycle for more heavily soiled items. A manual wash is also included which enables baked on substance to be removed by subjecting them to extended wash periods.
High Performance Under all Conditions:
The BT700 and BT2000 have been fitted with powerful wash pumps and separate rinse pumps. The rinse pumps are designed to deliver a constant rinse regardless of incoming water pressures. European machines with their mains pressure rinses have been found to be unsuitable in many installations with varying water qualities and pressures.
Hot Water Booster Tank:
Hot water is delivered via the inbuilt water booster tank manufactured from special highgrade stainless steel to combat Australia’s highly corrosive water. High capacity three phase elements* ensure quick recovery.
Conformance to Health Regulations:
An internal interlock will prevent the machine from operating unless the temperature required by regulation has been reached. Clearly legible wash & rinse gauges allow the operator to confirm that the machine is operating in the prescribed range.
Suitable for Corner Installation:
Both the BT700 and BT2000 are designed to be installed for either a straight through, corner or a front only operation.
Durable:
All stainless steel construction including wash arms and scrap trays ensure long life and protection against harsh detergents and hot water.
Easy to Maintain:
Norris has deliberately refrained from using electronics in their machines. All controls are electromechanical and are readily available, this ensures that should your machine ever need servicing a local tradesperson will be able to get you up & running with minimum disruption and cost.
